GST / VAT calculator.

Add tax to a price, or find the pre-tax price from a tax-inclusive amount. Works for any rate.

How GST and VAT work

GST (Goods and Services Tax) and VAT (Value Added Tax) are consumption taxes added to the price of goods and services. In Pakistan, the standard GST rate is 17 percent for most goods. In India, GST rates vary from 0 to 28 percent by category. In the UAE, VAT is 5 percent. In the UK, VAT is 20 percent.

Adding tax to a price

If your price is before tax (exclusive), multiply by (1 plus rate/100) to get the tax-inclusive price. A Rs 1,000 item with 17 percent GST becomes Rs 1,170. The GST amount is Rs 170.

Removing tax from a price (reverse GST)

If your price already includes tax, divide by (1 plus rate/100) to find the pre-tax price. A Rs 1,170 price inclusive of 17 percent GST has a pre-tax price of Rs 1,000. This is reverse GST calculation — useful when you receive a tax-inclusive invoice and need the base price.

Who uses a GST VAT calculator?

Business owners calculating invoice amounts. Accountants reconciling tax amounts. Shoppers checking how much of a retail price is tax. Importers calculating customs duties. Freelancers and consultants issuing tax invoices to clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between GST and sales tax in Pakistan? GST applies to goods at the manufacturing and import stage. Services are generally subject to provincial sales tax, which varies by province.

How do I calculate GST backwards? Divide the total price by (1 plus GST rate/100). For 17 percent GST: divide the total by 1.17. This calculator does this automatically when you select the inclusive option.

Can I use this for any tax rate? Yes. Enter any percentage — 5, 10, 15, 17, 20, or any other rate — and the calculator applies it correctly.
