How this is calculated
Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth that makes Zakat obligatory — traditionally set at the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Most scholars recommend using the silver standard, since it's lower and brings more people into the obligation, in keeping with Zakat's purpose. If your total zakatable assets (after subtracting debts) meet or exceed this threshold, 2.5% of that amount is due.
This calculator doesn't determine your full eligibility — Zakat also depends on wealth being held for a full lunar year (hawl) and other rulings that vary by school of thought. Consult a knowledgeable scholar for guidance specific to your situation.
