Tip calculator.

Work out the tip, the total bill, and split it evenly between any number of people.

How to calculate a tip

A tip is a voluntary gratuity given to service workers in recognition of good service. To calculate a tip amount, multiply the bill total by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 15 percent tip on a Rs 2,500 restaurant bill is Rs 375. To split the total bill including tip among multiple people, add the tip to the bill total and divide by the number of people.

Tipping culture in Pakistan

Tipping is appreciated but not universally mandated in Pakistan. In restaurants, leaving Rs 50 to 200 for table service is common. Upscale restaurants in major cities often add a 10 to 15 percent service charge to the bill automatically — check the bill before adding additional tip. Delivery riders, hotel staff, taxi drivers, and domestic workers all appreciate tips, particularly during Eid and other festivals when cash gifts (Eidi) are culturally expected.

Tipping when dining abroad

Tipping norms vary significantly by country. In the USA, a 18 to 22 percent tip is standard and expected — service staff earn low base wages with tips making up the majority of income. In UAE and Saudi Arabia, tips are appreciated but not required — restaurants may add a service charge. In Europe, tipping is less expected — rounding up the bill or leaving small change is sufficient at most restaurants. In Japan and China, tipping is considered rude and may be refused. Always research local norms before traveling.

Bill splitting for groups

The tip calculator handles bill splitting for groups — enter the total bill, select the tip percentage, and enter the number of people to instantly see each person's share. For groups where people ordered different items, it may be fairer to split only the tip equally while each person pays for their own order. Some restaurant apps and payment platforms support itemised bill splitting directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount? Conventionally, tip is calculated on the pre-tax amount since the server did not provide the government service that the tax covers. However, in practice most people tip on the total bill for simplicity.

Is a service charge the same as a tip? No. A service charge is a mandatory addition to the bill set by the restaurant — the staff may or may not receive all of it. A tip is an optional voluntary addition that typically goes directly to your server.
